September Farm Tour - Reel
September arrives and so does the cooler weather and shorter days. Our crew is on top of harvesting a row, prepping it and finalizing with the last seeding of the year. Daikon radishes, lettuce, winter greens and spinach are some of the many seeds getting sowed.
We are now truly in the danger zone of the dreaded F word! When that cold morning arrives it will be the end of our beans, patty pans, zucchini, some herbs and flowers. On the other side of the coin, once we get a nice frost the carrots, parsnips and parsley root will really sweeten up and should be ready to be harvested.
The chickens have and will continue to clean up after us. The massive amount of plant biomass that gets harvested in September and October is crazy. We are happy to have animals working alongside us to help reduce the waste while creating compost at the same time. The past couple of weeks we have been harvesting some of the meat birds, trying to stay on top of everything. Our flock is always changing because we have become quite the local chicken haven. Who could stay no to these gorgeous birds?
Our markets slows down but life on the farm gets even busier. Super thankful to everyone that has shown us support at the markets. Moving to ordering online, we hope that it will be seamless transition for most of our locals this autumn and winter. If you have any questions, always message us.
