Mizuna Mustard Greens
Mizuna Mustard Greens
4oz bag - The leaves will keep up to five days when wrapped loosely and stored in the crisper drawer of the refrigerator.
A perfectly pleasing combination of dense nutrition, rich flavour, and eye appeal. This feathery light green is suitable for raw eating in complex and flavourful salads or try steaming, boiling or stir frying. The young leaves can be combined with other lettuces like spinach, arugula, chard, oak leaf, romaine, and frisee to make spring mixes. It can be used to make pesto, chimichurri, and other herb-centric sauces and spreads. The leaves can also be layered in sandwiches or mixed in grain bowls, pasta salads, noodle dishes, risotto, stews, or soups. If you plan to cook with the leaves they should be added at the end of the cooking process to prevent sogginess. Makes a great replacement in recipes calling for frisee, mustard or arugula. An upscale Japanese leafy green, essential for high-end, gourmet culinary experimentation, or anyone looking to introduce a scrumptious new superfood into their repertoire.
Mizuna pairs well with;
Fruit & Veggies - garlic, lemon zest and juice, pomegranate seeds, apples, pears, leeks, broccoli, tomatoes, sunchokes, portobello mushrooms, shiitake mushrooms, new potatoes and most leafy greens.
Dairy & Meats - goat cheese, parmesan, poultry, poached eggs, shrimp, salmon, butter and milk.
Others - sesame oil, soy sauce, basil, ginger, tarragon, vinaigrettes, olive oil, vinegars and mint.
The stems of this variety are a lavender-pink hue, which indicates high levels of the antioxidant anthocyanin. The delicious leaves will often take on a pink colour as well when grown in favourable conditions! Mizuna is one of the healthiest vegetables that you can grow. It is a good source of vitamin C, as well as folate and the powerful antioxidant glucosinolate.
