Wheatgrass - Micro Greens
Wheatgrass - Micro Greens
This is our first year growing wheatgrass AKA Catgrass!! We’ve been growing micro greens of all varieties for the past eight years and it was time to try out this amazing superfood. The first record of Wheatgrass dates back over 5000 years ago to Ancient Egypt, it was prized for their constructive outcome on their wellbeing and imperativeness. It has a grassy, earthy, and bitter flavouring. It is not recommended to use any heat or cook with it. Traditionally juiced and consumed as a shot first thing in the morning, or they are blended into smoothies and added into juices.
Our wheatgrass is served in living 5x5 growing trays and can be harvested multiple times or grazed on regularly. One of our customers said his tray lasted up to a month with daily waterings! Animals of all sorts enjoy snacking on them, from rabbits to birds and especially cats! Even our pigs and goats love them! Great for overall pet and digestive health. If we have any extras we’ve dehydrated them and grind into a powder, which we then sprinkle it on our dog’s food.
Cherie Calbom explores the health benefits of wheatgrass in her book, The Juice Lady’s Guide To Juicing For Health. She claimes that,
“Wheatgrass juice has been proven over the many years to benefit people by cleanings the lymph system, building the blood, restoring balance in the body, removing toxic metals from the cells, nourishing the liver and kidneys, and restoring vitality.”
Wheatgrass is one of the most concentrated sources of living chlorophyll and this nutrient assists in cleansing the body and detoxing the liver. Strong antioxidant properties of chlorophyll have been demonstrated to have an impact on cancer prevention, control of oxidative stress, free radicals, and aid in the absorption of iron and other minerals. Great for treating anemia, candidiasis, colds and extremely healing for the digestive tract, eczema and skin conditions.
