Produce of the Week; Broccolini

Now this plant is a winner winner, broccolini with every dinner! Such an amazing product, the whole stem to flower is edible and delicious. The stem reminds us of asparagus with the beautiful texture. It will have a fresh, peppery and slightly sweet flavour with light mustard and grassy notes. It’s such a quick veggie to cook up and super versatile either raw or cooked. Try it shaved into salads or slaws for a nice crunch. Tossed into pasta dishes or buddha bowls, layered on appetizer plates with dips, air fry with your favourite cheese, cook it as a side dish, add into stir fry or throw it on the BBQ grill!

Pairs well with;

Vegetables & Fruits - ginger, garlic, onions, shallots, tomatoes, eggplant, asparagus, Brussels sprouts, chilies, carrots, citrus, sweet peppers, mushrooms, mustard greens, kale, cauliflower and potatoes.

Meats & Dairy - steaks, lobster, poultry, turkey, beef, pancetta, prosciutto, pork, fish, butter, chèvre, parmigiano, burrata, goat, and feta cheeses.

Others - olive oil, vinegars, tahini, sesame, soba noodles, nuts, olives, barley, rice, pasta, soya sauce and marjoram.

Broccolini will keep 5 to 10 days when stored in a plastic bag in the crisper drawer of the refrigerator. You may steam or blanched the veggie for 3-5 minutes then place in a ice bath. Once cooled, removed, dry then add to a cookie tray and freeze. Once frozen transfer to a freezer bag and it will last up to 6 months!
