We have the luxury of raising little mini composters! These multi purpose birds, scratch many of our itches. In October it will be a full year of eating only our own raised birds and we do not intend of going back to commercial chicken ever. Any extra or hail damaged vegetables goes straight to them. Their main mission is to break down our rather large pile of wood chips, corn stalks, Brussel sprout stalks, cabbage and broccolini plants from last years final harvest. Once itโs all said and done, they will be the happiest, most well fed chickens around and we will have beautiful compost to feed our soil later on. Itโs a great cycle and which we are grateful to be apart of.
Start the seed - harvest - fed to chickens - chickens produce compost - chickens feed us - compost feeds the soil - repeat ๐
